Reporting spam

Spam is hard to stop because the spammers use open relays to deliver it to you. It is important that you understand the concept of an open relay.

If you decide to try to report spam, you should look at the headers, and send a POLITE e-mail to the managers of the system that the spam originated from. Additionally, you should send an e-mail to the system managers of any open relays that the spam was transferred to/from.

To determine who the system managers are, you should do a whois lookup on the IP addresses of the originating server(s) listed in the headers.
