The prefered method of connection is SSH. See the remote connection guide, by Sean Mauney. This also means that SCP or SFTP is the prefered method of connecting to the workstations for File Transfers. See WinSCP for an SCP/SFTP client for Windows, and the PuTTY Home page for a SSH client.

Dreamweaver can be set up to use SFTP when transfering files, and I believe that it is a checkbox option when configuring the web host.
